Welcome to the primary classroom! This course is part of Modul 1 and
your first step to teaching English at a primary school. As a foundation
this Modul is concerned with the basics of Second Language Acquisition
(SLA). While the complementary course will provide you with the
linguistic essentials, here we will look at the implications for the
teaching profession. We will follow changes in the evolution of SLA that
have triggered developments in the teaching of second languages. We
will discuss individual, social and developmental aspects of the process
and finally postulate formal principles that support second language
acquisition in the setting of primary schools. You will be required to
read some academic articles on the subject and engage in debates and
group work while keeping an eye on the child within yourself and primary
school children as a whole. Contents of the course will be addressed in
the written exam.
