Indigenous Peoples' voices are still rarely heard or listen to. This course is dedicated to a specific means of how indigenous people in North America combine their traditions, talents, creativity, and (political) opinions to make their voices heard. We will follow the birth of contemporary (mostly) Native American music predominantly in the USA , its diversification into the various musical genres as well as the professionalization and innovation in the recent decades . Then, in the final quarter of the semester, you will be allowed to choose your own contemporary indigenous song, introduce it to your fellow students by analyzing the lyrics, the music videos (if available), and reflecting on the musical elements.
