As English teachers one of the main endeavours will be to teach a second
language to students. In this class we will investigate what second
language acquisition scenarios exist, how they differ and how second
language is learned in the classroom context. We will dive into
theoretical aspects of second language acquisition such as error
analysis and the critical period but also usage-based language learning.
Language attrition as the un-learning of a language will be covered as
well as criteria for language learning such as motivation, age and
cognitive ability.
