Although Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) emphasises group activities and the learners’ involvement in the classroom, in practice teachers still talk way too much: on average more than double the length of their students’ talking time, as research shows.

In this seminar, we will discover ways to ensure that learners are talking more (while worrying less) - in order to stay engaged and to build up confidence to speak in English. Our course’s aim is thus to create an online TaskCards-toolbox consisting of a collection of speech prompts, warm ups and energisers that help to increase student talking time and to encourage purposeful talk.
