Despite the emphasis on competence-based learning and learner-centred teaching in the modern ELT classroom, research reveals that teachers still talk way too much: on average more than twice the length of their students' talking time. In this seminar, we will address this issue by exploring effective ways to encourage learners to speak more confidently and to keep engaged throughout the learning process. Drawing on current research and practical examples, we will explore various warm-up strategies that cater to diverse learning styles and language proficiency levels.

Our course aims to expand your collection of valuable warm-up activities, speech prompts, and energisers. We will achieve this by having you try out and discuss a range of activities, as well as by building on our online “EFL Toolbox“ (using TaskCards).
