"There is an over-abundance of activity which engages young people with film, through study, screening programmes, and creative activities; through online activities, face to face meetings, streaming sites, print and DVD materials; and through audience participation - in the classrooms, in the cinemas or in other on-site venues." (Wall, Ried, Giese, 2021)
The appeal for watching films seems immortal. Even in a digitalized and online world like today we still like to go to the cinema or simply watch a feature-length film via On-Demand services. But do we learn something from watching a silly comedy, a turbulent action-thriller, a tense and impulsive drama, a chilling horror or a heartbreaking romance film?
The unconscious learning potentials of films ought to be made conscious when it come to using them in the classroom. In this seminar we will explore the medium film as both a means of as well as for teaching EFL. From the basicis of film analysis over to just how to teach with film down to producing films with school students,... and cut! Welcome to Film Didactics in ELT!
Attention!
This seminar will have you work together in tandem with a student from the other seminar "Internet Videos as catalyst for ELT" as
you both prepare one lesson sequence project for the module exam
(Prüfungsleistung: term paper - incl. lesson sequence project). It is
recommended that you already look for a tandem partner. THE FIRST
SEMINAR MEETING (17/10/23) WILL BE HELD TOGETHER WITH THE OTHER COURSE
PHYSICALLY! There we will be setting the tandem partners and talk about
organizational information.
