The Baltic Sea Region is home to various languages that belong to different language families. These languages are spread across several states, whose borders have often changed in the past. In this seminar, we will look at the demographic, geopolitical and historical circumstances that explain the current linguistic reality of the Baltic Sea Region. The focus will be on language history, language typology and language policy.
