What is it that makes a text a text? Which linguistic devices do we use to connect sentences and utterances? How can we use central concepts such as coherence and cohesion to make sense of texts from various genres including fiction, journalism, recipes, user manuals and computer-mediated communication? This course explores the theoretical tools of text linguistics and their applications in different types of written and oral discourse.
