The central hypothesis for this seminar is that narrative and games share many characteristics, and that there is a big affinity between the two, and therefore also a lot of overlap. While entering into the fiction contract can already be understood as taking part in a game, many narratives go much further in their invitation to “play”, setting riddles and challenges, traps and rewards. We will take a look at the full spectrum of playful texts and explore the borderlands between narrative and ‘proper’ games.
