The central hypothesis for this seminar is that narrative and games
share many characteristics, and that there is a big affinity between the
two, and therefore also a lot of overlap. While entering into the
fiction contract can already be understood as taking part in a game,
many narratives go much further in their invitation to “play”, setting
riddles and challenges, traps and rewards. We will take a look at the
full spectrum of playful texts and explore the borderlands between
narrative and ‘proper’ games.
