This seminar examines how natural resources shape regional development and how regions govern the economic, social and environmental consequences of resource use. It introduces key concepts from economic geography and applies them to fossil-fuel regions, renewable energy transitions, resource extraction, water and forest governance, rare earths, and battery minerals. Particular attention is given to uneven development, global production networks, spatial justice, path dependency, industrial transformation and the distribution of benefits and risks across places at multiple scales.
