In one week of June 2022 alone the American Supreme Court (SCOTUS) decided:
· That abortions were no longer constitutionally protected,
· That states like NY could no longer prevent their people from carrying their guns openly,
· That taxpayer money could be used to pay for private tuition at a parochial (religious) school.
SCOTUS is now comprised of judges that in a ratio of 6:3 are the favorites of white evangelical interest groups: A wish-come-true of Pat Buchanan when he introduced the term Culture War in the 1980s.
What, then, has become of the American Dream?
American society had been divided over what moral values should guide the nation before: slavery, individualism, pacifism or war…But since the Presidency of Donald Trump (2016-2020), the UNITED states of American seem to have been embroiled in a hotter than ever phase of the Culture War.
Culture Wars are about the “soul” of America.
This is what we need to talk about.
