The Great European Witch-Hunt was started by inquisitors in the 15th century in the Alpine region, spread all over Europe and continued until the late 18th century. Witch trials and witch beliefs, however, differed significantly in various countries because of specific features in the societies. The Witch-Hunt thus enables us to study the cultural interaction across Europe. In the course (Übung) we will compare and discuss the Witch-Hunt in a broad geographic frame from the Mediterranean region to Scandinavia and Russia.
