This course aims to provide you with the scaffolding for your academic essays which you can and should use in all academic text productions. We will practice its application continually, i.e. I expect students to complete worksheets in preparation for writing complete essay in the first half of the semester and then write an academic essay independently once a week in the second half of the semester. You will have to hand in your texts digitally via moodle at a fixed deadline latest. You will then receive extensive personalized feedback and we will use your work as a basis for further improvement in selected group meetings. For that, we will use the BBB.
Content-wise, we will work with a range of topics commonly covered in the news as they offer facts, analyses and opinions on a huge amount of events that more or less shape our daily lives or our experience of the world. They can both reflect and challenge our own views and thus invite a critical debate, demanding nuanced arguments.
