Crime and Criminal Justice has a long history of being entertaining for those who find themselves innocent (until proven guilty). We all seem to know the American Criminal Justice system in and out: rotten to the institutional bone, heroic, racist, and sexist and above all nonredeemable. Defund the police!
This senior seminar intends to strip away the mediated image of the American Criminal Justice system and offer an introduction into the topics AS IF we were majoring in Criminal Justice, yet reflecting on the pre/described system and the people involved from an angle rooted in Cultural Studies USA. We will debate crime and criminal justice as cultural issues and thus further our understanding of this particular and relevant side of the American society.
