Description: Metaphysics is one of the principal, most discussed, and presumably most important areas of philosophy. It is as old as philosophy itself, and it is probably one of its most controversial areas. Metaphysics asks questions about the structure of reality, what kinds of things exist, and what is fundamental to their very being. Are there nonexistent objects, such as unicorns and golden mountains? Are there abstract entities like numbers and properties? Do we have free will, even if determinism is true? What is the nature of time? What is the nature of causation? Questions like these will be investigated in this course. We will use a textbook written by Alyssa Ney called Metaphysics: An Introduction (https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B00MPIWOF4/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_tkin_p1_i0). Every student must have access to a copy of the book. Each week will be devoted to a topic/chapter of the book. Lectures will follow the book very closely. This course will be in English.
Die Vorlesung wird digital aufgezeichnet und auf der Moodle-Seite bereitgestellt.
