ABSTRACT:
The aim of this Blended Intensive Programme is to reflect on new frameworks in the field of Opera Studies, taking into account a number of thematic focuses related to didactics, aesthetics, philology and to management issues that have governed and still govern the world of musical theatre in a diachronic form. Reflection on the past will be accompanied by the contextualisation of present concerns, leading to the outlining of forthcoming scenarios and different ways of enjoying opera. How will future editions of operatic music be prepared? What could be the real contribution of artificial intelligence in opera performance and in what forms could it be studied? How can new generations be educated to discover the operatic world? Professors and students from various European universities will present their new projects in the field, discussing their research in a lively and multidisciplinary context. Guided tours of the most important opera sites in the city of Milan are also planned.
LEARNING AND TEACHING METHODS:
Different scholarly approaches to opera will be presented in different multimedia formats (Power Point presentations with integrated audio and video examples). The ensuing discussions will facilitate the creation of an international network, thus developing and strengthening the students’ academic profile and the teaching and research activities of the faculty, contributing to a global reconsideration of opera and operatic institutions past and present.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VIRTUAL COMPONENT:
Meetings of the whole team (teaching staff and students) will be held in order to get acquainted with each other and to allow for a systematic preparation of the activities to be held in Milan on December 9-13. Each participant will announce their research projects and acquire feedback from partners so as to raise its international potential and work towards the common goal.
