Information for Students
What is Moodle?
Moodle is the University of Greifswald’s course and learning platform. It can be used to add digital content to classes and other offers provided by the University of Greifswald. The University of Greifswald’s lecturers are encouraged to create Moodle courses that correspond to their classes and enable students to access any digital content that they provide.
For students, this means that there is a Moodle course for (nearly) every class. The course is used to provide slides, texts, scripts and other documents needed for the class. Some homework and written examinations are even submitted via Moodle. The Moodle course also provides access to BigBlueButton rooms that are used to host online meetings.
Moodle Manual for StudentsHow can I log into Moodle?
Like several other IT services at the University of Greifswald, Moodle also uses the single sign-on Shibboleth authentication. An account is set up automatically for all students and employees whose principal employment is at the university. This means that you can log in to the system with your central user account and require no further login details.
The login area can be found at the top right of your screen (use the Shibboleth login credentials).
How can I enrol for a Moodle course?
Log into Moodle. In order to find your courses for the first time, either use the course search or click your way through the navigation structure (click on the faculty -> select the department/institute -> chair -> course name).
You do not need to request or create a Moodle course in order to be able to participate in courses on Moodle. In order to be able to access the desired course, click on it and enrol yourself in accordance with the specified conditions. If you are asked to provide a registration code or password, please request it from the respective member of teaching staff (lecturer).
In some cases it is also possible to enrol via HIS. If this is the case, you will need to navigate to the class and click on the yellow “m” in the “Functions” section (if available).
